Yes, they are a food. I mean, in my diet bloody marys are a food group. And given they are such an important part of my weekly nutrition, its one of the rare food occasions where size does matter (yes I emphasized the word food in that sentence). I don’t want a bloody in a dinky little glass. If I wanted a dinky glass, I would have ordered a mimosa. I also don’t want your weird organic tomato water bloody (Sorry Spitzer’s…I love you in almost every other way). The classic is so spot on that there is no need to mess with it. So, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, you already know I am a fan of the Alias bloody. I mean, you can even get one there with shrimp! Real shrimp I tell you! But the winner for me is Diner’s Bloody Mary (there is the option of a large or small, but no need to go down that road again). When you have your Diner bloody it will have great texture (some gritty bits, but straw clogging mishaps are rare), good spice, good flavor and needless to say… in a pint glass.
Another one of those things about things...
In the interest of making my current period of unemployment as productive as can be, I am going to start a blog cataloguing one delicious food item in New York a day. After years and years of navigating the bountiful selection in this city, my mind is chock-full of ideas. And if I start to run out of them…well then it will be a reminder that I am not doing my duty as a food-lover, and am failing to eat out often enough in this amazing place (Although I can almost guarantee you that won’t happen).
totally agree diner is where it's at... but also PRAVDA has their Russian Mary (with Chili Horseradish infused vodka and so much garnish it looks like a piece of modern art) that can definitely compete with the big dogs.
ReplyDeleteDone and done. That will be my next PRAVDA order...
ReplyDeleteYes, the Horseradish martini with Quail Egg was delicious. Can't wait for that competent bloody!
