Another one of those things about things...

In the interest of making my current period of unemployment as productive as can be, I am going to start a blog cataloguing one delicious food item in New York a day. After years and years of navigating the bountiful selection in this city, my mind is chock-full of ideas. And if I start to run out of them…well then it will be a reminder that I am not doing my duty as a food-lover, and am failing to eat out often enough in this amazing place (Although I can almost guarantee you that won’t happen).

#9: Burger

Ok truthfully I am unqualified to enter the burger debate. It’s like debating over romantic comedies. Even if there are different levels of quality, if you’re a fan, you kind of like them all. Burgers are delicious: Fancy (DBGB’s), midrange (Dumont), casual (Shake Shack). I mean…even Wendy’s gets my heart going. So for this “thing” I thought I’d offer a version recommended by a friend that is both unexpected and tasty. Five Leaves, located in Greenpoint, does the following: grass fed beef, pineapple ring, house-pickled beets, harissa mayo and an organic sunny side up egg. I don’t know what genius (or culture) thought this one up... Actually, I hear its either Australia or New Zealand. Anyway, it may not replace your love of the standard, but it will be an experience worth remembering. And for a similar experience you probably wont remember, try the “Burger with the lot” at Bondi Road’s all you can drink brunch. Its got some similar stuff on it like beets, egg…I kind of forgot.

p.s. This is an actual image of the thing taken from someone else's food blog.... classy.
