Another one of those things about things...

In the interest of making my current period of unemployment as productive as can be, I am going to start a blog cataloguing one delicious food item in New York a day. After years and years of navigating the bountiful selection in this city, my mind is chock-full of ideas. And if I start to run out of them…well then it will be a reminder that I am not doing my duty as a food-lover, and am failing to eat out often enough in this amazing place (Although I can almost guarantee you that won’t happen).

#13: Cocktail

Don’t be fooled by the word cocktail. This post will not be about a classy lounge, or some great mixologist’s $14 creation that may or may not get you drunk, and leave your palate searching for a hint of saffron. This is about a badass mixture of about 6 – 10 different kinds of booze (I get a different number each time I count… I blame the drink), some grenadine, pineapple juice… and a conveniently located microphone for singing karaoke when the mix kicks in. I am talking about Winnie’s and I’m talking about their Hawaiian punch. I always describe Winnie’s as a bar that happens to have karaoke, rather then a karaoke bar. You sing in the front to people who may or may not be paying attention, but most likely are watching the amazing 80’s Asian stock footage that plays along with each tune. The atmosphere is cozy, with Christmas lights and big red leather booths… red like the Hawaiian punch! Which tastes like fruity sweet deliciousness but will also guarantee you’ll be sounding like Mariah by the night’s end (or Christina Aguilera if you’re a gay man). This is a Chinatown treasure that is easily missed, but not to be missed!

ps. Employment update! My life has new meaning. I have found a job. Well... at least for the next 2 months since it's a temporary gig. Anyway, its not really a sit at the computer type of thing so my blog postings may be slightly less frequent then everyday. Not to worry! There will still be several things to peruse each week. No, no. Don't cry. I am not leaving you. I am just playing hard to get. Wow, sure hope someone is actually reading this or I will have to develop multiple personalities like Gollum and have cyber conversations with myself....

  3. One of my favorite places in NYC. Perhaps we can go there when Krista is here around Xmas.
