The first time I ate at the Meatball Shop, the immediate thought I had was “What a brilliant idea”. The menu is arranged pick-and-choose style, so you get to decide everything from the meatball (spicy pork, classic beef etc…), to the preparation (in a hero, smashed up with cheese, in sliders or, as they call it... naked balls). They have a variety of delicious sides, which you can also choose to get under your meatballs. One example of a combo I found delicious: Chicken meatball on a whole-wheat hero, with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cream sauce. Another combo I think sounds delicious: vegetable balls with classic tomato sauce on top of polenta and spinach (guess meatball is a misnomer in this case). They have a decent selection of wines to aid in digestion, and look out for their “meatball” special, which changes frequently.
Apparently there are 24 different combinations possible for the savory side of the meal, but the decisions don’t end there. The Meatball Shop also makes homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches. True to their style, you can choose the flavor of the ice cream, as well as the top and bottom cookies (Example: ice cream: caramel/ top cookie: chocolate/ bottom cookie: peanut butter). The place has a warm feel and large family style wooden tables. My advice: Brings lots of friends and try as many combos as possible!
So glad that you are doing this. Such a refreshing tone for a food blog! It makes me really want to go eat everything you write about. And of course, while I read I get to imagine you devouring these delicacies with abandon, which uncorks so many other memories.
